Australian Man, Naveed Akram, Charged with 59 Offenses, Including 15 Murders and Terrorism, Following Bondi Beach Attack

Australian authorities have leveled 59 charges, including terrorism and 15 counts of murder, against Naveed Akram, the alleged perpetrator of the Bondi Beach massacre. The 24-year-old is accused of opening fire at a Jewish festival on Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach on Sunday evening, resulting in the deaths of 15 people and injuring dozens more.

The victims included a 10-year-old girl, two Holocaust survivors, and a married couple who were shot dead while trying to intervene. Police allege Akram and his father, Sajid Akram, engaged in conduct that caused death, serious injury, and endangered life to advance a religious cause and instill fear in the community.

Investigations suggest the attack was inspired by ISIS, a listed terrorist organization in Australia. Sajid Akram was killed in a shootout with police, while Naveed Akram was critically wounded and later charged with multiple offenses, including committing a terrorist act, firing a weapon, and displaying a symbol linked to a terrorist organization.

The attack has sparked widespread condemnation and raised concerns about rising antisemitism and violent extremism in Australia. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has vowed to tighten gun laws and eradicate antisemitism from society, saying the attack was “a senseless and horrific act of violence”.
