Ayedatiwa Donates N2m for Quintuplet, Orders Probe into Mother’s Death After Birth

The Governor of Ondo State,Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reiterated his Administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of pregnant women to reduce the maternal mortality rate in the State.

The Governor represented by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Seun Osamaye stated this during a visit to Netcare Multispeciality Hospital to see the quintuplets whose mother died during childbirth.

The Governor expressed sadness over the incident while sympathising with the bereaved family for the loss.

The Commissioner for women Affairs revealed that the plans for the children’s care extended beyond immediate health needs, and once stabilised, the children may be transferred to a specialised facility for continued support.

Dr Osamaye appreciated the governor and his amiable wife, first Lady, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa for their commitment to the protection of women’s health and well-being affirming that the Governor recognises the need for a nurturing environment for children who have lost their parents.

She said that addressing high-risk pregnancies was so crucial to the State Government to prevent further tragedies and that the recent case highlights the necessity for careful monitoring and proactive intervention and urged the management of the hospital to always prioritise referral for high-risk pregnancies.

Speaking earlier the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Kolawole Kayode while sympathising with the bereaved family prayed to God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr Adiji Ayodele Ojo, stated that the State Government is addressing the incident to ensure accountability and enhance the safety of pregnant women in the State.

He said further that the Ministry of Health has set necessary machinery in motion to investigate the incident’s causes so that immediate action will follow the investigation’s findings to enhance the children’s safety and welfare.

Earlier, the Paediatrician in charge of the babies, Dr Korede Oluwatuyi recounted the excitement of the successful delivery of the quintuplets and said monitoring was put in place to ensure the well-being of both the mother and the babies. Proactive measures were taken for the health of the mother and the babies only for the unfortunate incident to happen.

While responding to the referral issue, Dr Oluwatuyi stated that the hospital did recommend to the patient and her family the need for the hospital to refer them to the Federal Medical Hospital or the Medical Hospital at Ondo but that referral can be complicated by the patient’s rights at times.
