Insecurity: Peter Obi Urges Urgent Action to End Killings Across Nigeria

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on authorities at all levels to take swift and decisive measures to address the growing insecurity affecting several parts of Nigeria.

In a statement released on Sunday, Obi expressed concern over recent attacks in Benue, Plateau, and Niger states, describing the incidents as evidence of a worsening security situation that continues to threaten lives and livelihoods.

He noted that communities in the affected states have suffered deadly attacks, abductions, displacement of residents, and destruction of homes and property. According to him, the recurring violence should not be treated as isolated events but as part of a broader national security challenge requiring urgent attention.

Obi stressed that many Nigerians now live in fear as attacks continue to occur in communities, with residents forced from their homes and farmlands. He warned that the country must not allow such incidents to become a normal part of daily life.

The former governor urged federal, state, and local governments to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve rapid-response mechanisms, and intensify efforts to rescue victims of abduction while bringing perpetrators to justice.

He emphasized that protecting lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government, adding that greater focus should be placed on preventing attacks before they occur rather than responding after casualties have been recorded.

Obi called for coordinated action to restore safety and public confidence, insisting that Nigerians deserve a secure environment where they can live and work without fear.
