Court Convicts Two Ansaru Commanders On 32 Terrorism, Kidnapping Charges
A Federal High Court has convicted two Ansaru commanders, Mahmud Al-Nigeri and Abu Baraa, on all 32 counts of terrorism and kidnapping brought against them.
Justice Emeka Nwite convicted the defendants after they changed their plea to guilty during the proceedings.
Delivering the ruling, the judge held that, in line with Section 274(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), once a defendant enters a guilty plea, the court is empowered to convict accordingly.
The two men were consequently convicted on all 32 counts filed against them.
Sentencing is expected to follow.
