Dangote Refinery Extends Free Fuel Delivery to More States, Marketers Hail Move

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has expanded its free fuel delivery programme to additional states, including Kano, Imo, Anambra, and Nasarawa, in a bid to ease distribution challenges and lower operating costs for petroleum marketers.

The initiative, which was previously available in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kaduna, Delta, and the Federal Capital Territory, is aimed at bringing petroleum products closer to retailers and reducing the burden of transportation expenses.

By taking responsibility for delivery costs, the refinery is expected to help marketers save on logistics, improve cash flow, and potentially offer fuel at more competitive prices.

Speaking on the development, a senior executive of the refinery said the programme was designed to ensure that the benefits of local refining reach businesses and consumers through more efficient fuel distribution and lower supply chain costs.

The move has been welcomed by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), which described it as a major relief for marketers who often face delays and high expenses in transporting products from depots to filling stations.

IPMAN noted that the arrangement could reduce the financial strain associated with fuel procurement and distribution, while also improving access to products across different parts of the country.

Industry stakeholders believe the programme could have a significant impact in distant markets where transportation costs make fuel distribution more expensive. They also say it may contribute to greater competition in the downstream sector and create room for lower pump prices.

With increasing domestic refining capacity, analysts view the initiative as another step toward improving efficiency in Nigeria’s petroleum supply chain and enhancing product availability nationwide.
