EFCC Arrests Two Over N11 Million Football Scam and Naira Mutilation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two individuals in separate operations involving fraud and abuse of the Nigerian currency.
In the first case, the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC took into custody one Osagie Etinosa for allegedly defrauding a young footballer of N11 million. According to a statement from the Commission, Etinosa used his Instagram account, @officialking_etto, to pose as a football agent claiming to specialize in arranging trials and recruitment for players with foreign clubs.
The statement further revealed that the suspect collected N11 million from a victim named Samuel Beke Ohazuruike after promising to secure trials for him at clubs in Romania and Bulgaria. However, the promised opportunities never came through, and the victim’s efforts to recover his money proved unsuccessful. The EFCC confirmed that Etinosa would soon be arraigned in court.
In a separate arrest, the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate apprehended Fatima Muhammed over alleged mutilation of the Naira. The EFCC explained that the arrest followed a viral TikTok video showing the suspect using a N500 note to clean mucus from her nose.
Operatives traced and arrested her within the Maiduguri metropolis, the Commission stated. Muhammed is currently under investigation at the Maiduguri detention facility, and she will be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.
The EFCC confirmed both arrests in separate statements, reaffirming its commitment to monitoring financial crimes and enforcing relevant laws across the country.
