Ekiti 2026: INEC Presents Voter Register, Says Over 1 Million Registered Voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission has presented the updated voter register for Ekiti State to political parties, with 1,059,660 voters eligible to elect the next governor in the June 20, 2026 election.

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan presented the register in Ado Ekiti during a readiness assessment meeting. Thirteen political parties are participating in the governorship election.

Amupitan assured the electorate that their votes would count and warned against vote-trading, describing it as a criminal offence under the Electoral Act. He called on law enforcement agencies, including the EFCC, ICPC, and the police, to arrest and prosecute offenders.

The INEC boss cited the recent Anambra State election, conducted under his watch, as an example of a peaceful, transparent, and undisputed poll. He urged political parties to focus campaigns on issues rather than personalities or nepotism.

INEC National Commissioner Sam Olumekun, who supervises Lagos, Ekiti, and Oyo states, said the register had undergone rigorous data collection, verification, and cleaning. He stated that no eligible voter had been disenfranchised and no ineligible name would remain on the list.

Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi appealed to parties and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with the Electoral Act, noting that Ekiti is known for political maturity and democratic participation.
