Ekiti Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Robbery at EkSU University Student Hostels
The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack on private hostels occupied by students of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, said in a statement on Saturday that the incident occurred at about 2:30 am on the same day.
According to the police, operatives from the Iworoko Police Division responded to a distress call reporting that suspected robbers had broken into off-campus student hostels in the Iworoko area, forcibly collected phones and other belongings, and fled the scene.
Abutu said the police trailed the suspects to their hideout and arrested two, while two others escaped. Recovered items include an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle, two stolen phones, two MP digital radios, as well as stolen shoes and clothing.
The two arrested suspects were identified as Abdulraman Abdulmumini, 26, and Abdulsalam Oseni, 31. The police spokesperson said both have confessed to the crime and have named other gang members who are currently at large.
“Investigation is underway, and the arrested suspects are helping with necessary information that will aid the process for the possible arrest of the fleeing suspects as well as the recovery of other stolen items,” Abutu stated.
The state Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible information that could help arrest criminal elements and curb criminal activities in the state.
