Ekiti Residents Plan Peaceful Protest for June 9 Over Rising Insecurity
Residents of Ekiti State have announced plans to hold a peaceful protest on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, to voice growing concerns over worsening security conditions across the state.
According to an awareness notice issued by the group, a formal letter had earlier been sent to the governor’s office outlining their security worries and calling for urgent action. The group expressed frustration that despite repeated appeals, the government has yet to take meaningful steps.
Organizers said several consultation meetings have since been held with community members and stakeholders. An ultimatum was also given to the state government, demanding immediate and decisive measures to protect lives and property.
The planned protest, they stressed, is a peaceful civic exercise and not intended to cause unrest. Its goal is to advocate for residents’ safety and press authorities for a prompt response.
“We urge all concerned citizens to join us lawfully and orderly as we work together for lasting solutions to insecurity in our communities,” the statement read.
The group added that security is a shared responsibility, and the protection of lives and property must remain a top government priority.
