Family of Three Arraigned in Ekiti Over Alleged Assault, Police Obstruction

A man, his wife, and their daughter have been brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attacking neighbors and assaulting police officers on duty.

The defendants Babatunde Awolusi, 45; Mary Awolusi, 42; and Oluwaseun Awolusi, 23 reside at Gloryland Avenue, Covenant Extension, in Ado-Ekiti. They are facing a four-count charge that includes assault and obstruction of official duties.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on February 11, 2026. The dispute reportedly began over a land demarcation issue, escalating into a physical confrontation with neighbors Precious and Kehinde Agunbiade.

During the altercation, the third defendant, Oluwaseun, allegedly used a razor blade to cut Kehinde on the back.

The situation reportedly worsened when police officers ASP Taiwo Ogunleye, Inspector Adejoh Esther, and Inspector Omozuafo Juliet—arrived at the scene. The defendants are accused of assaulting the officers and preventing them from carrying out their lawful duties.

The prosecutor stated that the actions violated Sections 184, 186, and 187 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun denied bail to the first and third defendants and ordered their remand at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre. However, the second defendant, Mary Awolusi, was granted bail in the sum of ₦100,000 with two sureties in the same amount, citing health considerations.

The case has been adjourned until February 20 for further mention.
