Ifo Alert False: Bus Carried 21 Road Workers, Not Thugs-Police

The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a viral security alert in Ifo, confirming that individuals earlier suspected to be criminals were actually road construction workers.

In a statement, the Command said the alarm followed reports of a bus allegedly conveying suspected criminals along the Ibogun Road axis in Ogun State.

Police said surveillance and anti-robbery teams responded swiftly after receiving intelligence on June 3, 2026, only to discover that the bus was carrying 21 labourers engaged in the reconstruction of the Ifo–Ibogun Road.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the workers had been intercepted by some youths before police intervention.

Further verification confirmed that the labourers were legitimately employed by a construction company handling the federal road project, and not involved in any criminal activity.

The police described the report linking them to crime as false and unfounded, warning against the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic.

Officers subsequently ensured the safety of the workers and escorted them to their work site.

The Command urged members of the public to verify information before sharing, to avoid harassment of innocent citizens, unnecessary security tension and avoidable violence leading to injuries.
