Imo APC primitives: Party deploys over 1,000 officials across 305 wards

The All Progressives Congress in Imo State has deployed more than 1,000 electoral officials across the 305 wards in the state to conduct its primary elections for the selection of candidates in upcoming polls.

The party also confirmed that its monitoring and appeal committees have arrived in the state to oversee the exercise and address any complaints.

The spokesperson for the Imo APC, Dr Jones Onwuasoanya, said on Saturday that the primaries are already ongoing at ward collation centres across the state. He noted that the exercise is being conducted under the direct primaries method, in line with the party’s constitutional and electoral guidelines.

According to the spokesperson, the party has deployed over 1,000 electoral officials from within its ranks to ensure a hitch-free, credible, and transparent process. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission are supervising the exercise, while adequate security measures have been put in place for the safety of all participants.

The House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, chaired by Rear Admiral Williams Kayode, and the Appeal Committee led by Engr. Tuoyo Omatsuli, are already on ground working alongside the state party leadership.

Onwuasoanya reiterated the party’s commitment to a transparent process where the votes of all members would count, and urged aspirants and stakeholders to maintain order and cooperate with officials.

The primaries are part of the APC’s internal preparations ahead of the forthcoming elections.
