INEC Trains Staff to Combat Misinformation Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun a two-day capacity-building workshop for its Voter Education and Publicity Department in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The training, which started on Wednesday, is designed to enhance strategic communication and improve monitoring of misinformation ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Representing the Director of Voter Education, Deputy Director Wilfred Ifogah described the workshop as timely, noting the challenges posed by emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in spreading false narratives.
“We must be proactive in monitoring the media space, responding effectively to false narratives, and protecting the integrity of the electoral process,” Ifogah stated.
He urged participants to collaborate closely within the Commission and with external stakeholders to build public trust.
The programme, organized in partnership with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), includes sessions on strategic communication, public perception, and social media management in electoral contexts.
In a related development, INEC has warned the public to disregard a false article circulating online which claims the Commission has released the timetable for the 2027 General Elections. The Commission stressed that no official schedule has been issued.
