Kaduna Governor Promises Support for Family of Woman Killed by Mob
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has pledged that the state government will provide for the family of the late Ummulkhairi Aliyu, an Islamic teacher who was lynched by a mob in Maraban Jos earlier this month.
During a condolence visit to the family on Saturday, the governor announced that the state would take full responsibility for the welfare of the deceased’s husband and her four children, specifically guaranteeing their continued education.
The incident, which occurred on June 14, involved a crowd that beat the woman to death and set her body ablaze following unsubstantiated allegations that she had attempted to kidnap children. The brutal nature of the act sparked national outrage and calls for an immediate end to vigilante violence.
Condemning the incident as “barbaric,” Governor Sani provided an update on the ongoing legal response, revealing that security agencies have conducted extensive investigations. According to the governor, 41 individuals have been charged with culpable homicide, and an additional 30 people have been charged with unlawful assembly. In total, 82 suspects have been processed by authorities.
“Everyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law,” the governor stated. “We must send a clear message that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.”
Beyond the prosecution of the mob members, Governor Sani has ordered a thorough investigation into the actions of local security personnel present during the event, including the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Maraban Jos. He vowed that any law enforcement officer found to have been negligent or complicit in the incident would be held accountable for their failure to protect the victim.
