Lagos Police Intercept Truckload of Military Uniforms and Illicit Drugs

The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a large consignment of military camouflage uniforms and suspected illicit substances during an intelligence-led operation in the Surulere area.

State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, confirmed the recovery while addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday. According to the Commissioner, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit apprehended three suspects—identified as 29-year-old Chinedu David, 38-year-old Ezeagwu Chukwuma, and 45-year-old Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi—following a targeted operation on Saturday night.

Authorities recovered an unregistered MAN diesel truck containing 47 sacks of military-grade camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs. Preliminary investigations suggest the materials were being transported to the South-East region of the country.

The police command is currently conducting a detailed investigation to trace the origin, ownership, and intended destination of the items. Investigators are also working to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and to identify other individuals connected to the criminal network.

While the Commissioner assured residents that the seizure does not pose an immediate threat to the safety of Lagos State, he acknowledged the broader security concerns regarding the increasing use of military attire by criminal elements. Police sources further indicated that the suspects were taken into custody after attempting to claim the seized items at a police station in Surulere.
