Senator Orji Kalu Urges Enhanced Security to Boost Nigeria’s Economy
Former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Kalu, has emphasized that tackling national insecurity is a prerequisite for achieving sustainable economic prosperity. Speaking during an official visit to Sokoto State, where he commissioned 10 road projects, the senator called for more aggressive and stringent measures to curb security challenges currently hindering national development.
Reflecting on the state of the nation, Kalu acknowledged the efforts of the current administration to expand the economy, noting that macroeconomic indicators are showing positive signs. However, he pointed out a significant disconnect between high-level economic performance and the daily realities of citizens.
He noted that while the macroeconomy is performing well, the microeconomy is struggling, and the benefits of national growth have yet to reach the average Nigerian. He attributed this disconnect partly to the persistent security crisis, stressing that economic expansion is vital to driving prosperity and improving the living conditions of the populace.
Beyond his economic observations, Senator Kalu reaffirmed his unwavering stance on the nation’s integrity. Amidst calls for stability and progress, he declared his continued dedication to the country’s cohesion, stating that he will continue to pray and plead for the unity of Nigeria throughout his life.
The visit to Sokoto, hosted by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, served as a platform for these reflections, as Kalu praised the state’s recent infrastructure developments while urging a collective focus on both security and economic inclusion to ensure the gains of national growth are felt by all.
