LG Polls: Niger Government Declares Thursday Public Holiday
Governor Sani Bello of Niger State has declared Thursday to be observed as a public holiday throughout Niger state in respect of the election in the 25 local government areas in the state.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Ahmed Matane in Minna declared the holiday in a statement on Wednesday.
Matane said the public holiday would give the citizens chance to vote in the elections.
Markets and offices, he said, would remain closed and the movement of persons and vehicles curtailed, except for those on essential duties.
“Government is urging citizens to go out and perform their civic duties on Thursday. This presents yet another avenue to elect representatives and leaders who expectedly will work for our collective aspirations at the Local Government level.”
Bello also ordered all security operatives in the state to ensure law and order during the elections, adding that the government is committed to safeguarding and guaranteeing a hitch-free process.
