Low turnout worries Yobe Army recruiters as screening exercise nears end

The ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise in Yobe State is facing a concerning trend, with a significant number of shortlisted candidates failing to report for the screening process. As of the time of inspection, only 1,605 candidates had reported for documentation out of the 2,431 shortlisted from the state.

This shortfall of over 800 candidates has raised alarms, with Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdul-Salam, Chairman of the Yobe State Recruitment Committee, expressing worry that the state might not meet its allocated quota in the Nigerian Army. Abdul-Salam, who is also the Special Adviser to Governor Buni on Security Matters, attributed the low turnout to poor information flow, misconceptions, and lack of commitment to the process.

Speaking after inspecting the screening exercise at the 241 Recce Model Battalion, Nguru, Abdul-Salam emphasized the need for more awareness and sensitization among the youth on the Army Recruitment Exercise. He urged qualified candidates to take advantage of the opportunity, stressing that many might be missing out due to lack of information.

The screening exercise, which is expected to end on December 17, 2025, has prompted Abdul-Salam to call for increased awareness to ensure that Yobe State meets its recruitment targets.
