Nigerian Army Sanctions Soldier Over False Poor Feeding Claim

The Nigerian Army has disciplined a personnel serving under Operation Hadin Kai for spreading false information alleging that troops in the North-East theatre are being poorly fed.

The action followed an investigation into a viral social media post, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-East, Lieutenant Colonel Sanni Uba.

The investigation revealed that the image circulated by the soldier did not represent the full ration issued to him at the time. The Army stated that the narrative being pushed was misleading and did not reflect the actual feeding arrangements or welfare standards for troops in the region.

Uba maintained that troops deployed across formations under Operation Hadin Kai are fed in line with approved standards, with additional enhancements during special periods such as Sallah and Easter to boost morale. He noted that the feeding system is managed through structured Food Committees made up of personnel across various ranks, ensuring transparency and oversight.

The statement confirmed that the soldier was sanctioned in line with the Armed Forces Act. The Army emphasised that troops are encouraged to use established internal channels to resolve grievances rather than resorting to actions that could misrepresent operational realities.

The Army also urged the public to rely on verified information, warning that misinformation undermines military operations and national security efforts.
