Police Arrest Two for Vandalizing Government Property in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of vandalizing and stealing government infrastructure along the Umuahia-Uzuakoli Road.

The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Emmanuel Ogonna and 25-year-old Ifeanychukwu Oko, both residents of Uzuakoli in Bende Local Government Area, were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation on June 19, 2026.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, police operatives recovered a significant haul of stolen equipment from the suspects’ auto-rickshaw. The recovered items included 86 electrical poles, 49 pieces of angle iron, two saws, three spanners, and three small iron boards.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry and formal prosecution.

The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, commended the operatives for their vigilance and reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure. He called on the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to assist in the fight against crime.
