Police authorities in Rivers State have sealed off a hotel in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt following the death of a young man under circumstances that remain unclear.

The victim, identified simply as Charles, reportedly died in the early hours of Thursday, sparking outrage among relatives and friends who rushed to the facility demanding an explanation from management.

Family members questioned claims that Charles died after falling from a balcony within the hotel premises, insisting that investigators examine available surveillance footage to establish the true circumstances surrounding his death.

The development caused tension at the hotel as grieving relatives sought further clarification over the incident. Police officers from the Azikiwe Division were subsequently deployed to the scene to maintain order and prevent the situation from escalating.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the deceased’s elder brother said they were informed of Charles’ death at about 5 a.m. and immediately visited the hotel and the hospital where his body was taken. He noted that observations made by the family had raised concerns and strengthened their call for a detailed investigation.

The family has urged law enforcement authorities to uncover the facts surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable.

As part of ongoing investigations, the police have shut down the hotel and ordered occupants to vacate the premises while detectives examine the scene. Sources said the measure was taken to secure potential evidence and prevent interference with the investigation.
