TCN Disputes EKEDC Outage Claim on Lekki Line, Attributes fault to DisCo Feeders

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disputed a publication by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) concerning an outage at the Lekki Transmission Substation, saying the incident was caused by faults on EKEDC’s feeders.

In a statement signed by its management on Thursday, TCN said EKEDC’s claim that its T11 transformer tripped unexpectedly and was awaiting inspection was incorrect.

According to TCN, EKEDC’s Oniru 33kV and Agungi 33kV feeders tripped simultaneously at about 4:34am on August 26, 2026, due to overcurrent and earth fault.

The company said the fault resulted in the inter-tripping of the primary and secondary breakers of its TR1 60MVA, 132/33kV transformer, accompanied by a heavy bang and smoke.

TCN said its maintenance crew responded promptly, rehabilitated the damaged secondary breaker and restored both the primary and secondary breakers later that day.

however, said another trip occurred when EKEDC attempted to close its Oniru feeder during a trial restoration, as the same relay indications reappeared.

“This incident was strictly related to EKEDC’s Oniru 33kV and Agungi 33kV feeders,” TCN said.

The transmission company said its technical team remained on site working to restore electricity supply as quickly as possible
