Wike Fires Back, Dares Ayu To Stop Ortom, Others From Contesting

Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has said that  Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), does not have the power to stop any member of the party from contesting elections.

Wike said this on Sunday in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers state.

The Rivers governor was responding to a recent comment made by Ayu in Gboko, Benue state.

While addressing his supporters on Friday, Ayu had said he could have stopped the political ambitions of those calling for his resignation.

“I have been silent over all the things you are hearing against me because I don’t want any crack in the party I belong to in my state,” Ayu had said.

“I have the powers to say ‘you and you will not go anywhere’, because I will insist that I must sign before you go anywhere.

“But I have signed for all candidates produced by the PDP to go ahead in their dreams — whether I like it or not, I signed.”

But Wike in Port Harcourt on Sunday said the PDP chairman lacks integrity and personifies corruption.

“I dare the National Chairman to stop any contestant if he has what it takes.

“It is in this country where you say a man is very corrupt and he is trying to talk,” Wike said.

Wike recalled how Ortom convinced other governors to allow Ayu to become party chairman against the resolution of the governors who had agreed that the National chairman should not come from a place where a PDP governor comes from.

He said: “The agreement by the governors was that no national chairman should come from where a PDP governor comes from but Ortom came, and he is a man we respect and that he wants to promote his people and let them be at the national politics, we said okay.

“This is a man (Ayu) who never campaigned anywhere and now can tell you that if he wanted to stop the man who brought him, who guaranteed him. That’s the corruption we are talking about.

“He has now come into office, he has seen money, he has seen power and now can open his mouth to say if he wanted to stop Ortom he would have stopped him”, he added.

“He said he can also stop any contestant, look at him, maybe he’s hollow, he doesn’t know anything.

“I dare him. If he’s National Chairman I dare him to stop any contestants if he has what it takes”.

Governor Wike also disclosed that he dealt with Ayu when he allegedly attempted to impose a governorship candidate in Rivers state.

G5: Rivers PDP Alleges Plot To Blackmail Wike

The  commissioner for information and communications in Rivers, Chris Finebone has revealed that  the state has uncovered a plot to blackmail Nyesom Wike, governor of the state.

A statement issued by Kelvin Ebiri, special assistant to Wike on media, revealed that  Finebone spoke at a media briefing on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers.

Fineboy explained that the “faceless group” is orchestrating a campaign of calumny against Wike because they are vexed over his role in leading the G5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for “fairness, equity and justice” in the party.

“This is the evidence of the plot to blackmail governor Wike. This is the document and it is titled: ‘Proposal with hashtag, to end Wike rascality programme’,” he said.

The commissioner said the plan to blackmail Wike is “totally unexpected” by the Rivers government.

“We encouraged them to remove their mask and show themselves as the governor and the government is equal to the task of responding to them adequately,” he said.

“They can’t even sign it (the document) to push for this. It is important we warn them. It is important we also warn Nigerians about this scheme. We expect more of them to come. But I can assure you that the governor and the G-5 would rise to the occasion as they continue to start this type of campaign of calumny.”

Court Voids PDP Guber Primary In Ebonyi, Orders Fresh Poll

A few months to the general elections, a federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ebonyi State.

The PDP, in its first primary election conducted in May 28th and 29th 2022, elected Mr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii as its gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi State.

The party also held another primary election on the 4th and 5th of June 2022, which produced Obinna Ogba as its factional governorship candidate.

It was gathered that the 1st primary election of the PDP which produced Odii as a guber candidate was conducted under the headship of Silas Onu while the 2nd Primary election of the party that produced Ogba, was conducted under the headship of Tochukwu Okorie.

Both Odii and Ogba reportedly fought gallantly in court for the PDP guber ticket in Ebonyi, wherein the Supreme Court later ruled in favour of Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii.

But now, Justice Binta Nyako has allegedly nullified all the primary elections of the PDP conducted under Silas Onu.

Justice, Nyako, however, gave fourteen days (14 days) for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to conduct a fresh primary election.

When contacted, the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Tochukwu Okorie confirmed the nullification of the Party’s primaries.

He said the party will soon make its position known as regards the federal High court ruling.
