Yobe Governor Condoles Borno Over Deadly Maiduguri Bombings, Donates N10m

In a heartfelt show of solidarity, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State following the recent multiple bomb explosions in Maiduguri that claimed over 23 lives.

Governor Buni, currently in Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj (Umrah), was represented at the sympathy visit on Wednesday in the Borno State capital by his deputy, Idi Gubana.

During the visit, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the attack and sympathised with the injured, describing the incident as a tragic assault on innocent citizens going about their daily lives.

In a message delivered on his behalf, Governor Buni said the people of Yobe share in the grief of their neighbours.

“Our hearts bleed as innocent citizens, who were merely going about their lawful daily activities, have become victims of this senseless violence,” he stated.

He called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious activities.

“Security is a collective responsibility. We must remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to the relevant authorities,” Buni added.

The governor reaffirmed the longstanding bond between Yobe and Borno, emphasising that the two states share a common destiny in the face of insurgency.

“Borno and Yobe are one; whatever affects Borno equally affects Yobe,” he said.

While acknowledging ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and security forces to restore peace in the North-East, Buni urged that the recent attacks should not be allowed to undermine the progress already achieved.

As a practical gesture of support, the Yobe State Government announced a donation of N10 million to assist families affected by the bombings.

Receiving the delegation, Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, expressed appreciation for the visit and the financial support.

He noted that both states continue to confront shared security challenges, particularly as military operations sometimes push insurgents to deploy improvised explosive devices in urban centres.

“Such operations often lead to the infiltration of insurgents into urban areas using improvised explosive devices,” Kadafur explained.

He called for sustained collaboration between the two states and urged citizens to remain prayerful and united in the collective effort to restore lasting peace to the region.

The Yobe delegation included the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, and other senior officials.
