Soldiers Uncover Illegal Arms Factory Arrest Suspect in Nasarawa
Troops have uncovered an illegal arms manufacturing facility in Nasarawa State and arrested one suspect.
The discovery was made by personnel of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), during a routine patrol in Doma Local Government Area on Monday.
Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, stated that troops from the Forward Operating Base in Idadu discovered a concealed location suspected to be used for fabricating weapons. Upon arrival, several individuals fled the scene.
One suspect, identified as 26-year-old Baba Ogar from Arusu village in Kokona LGA, was apprehended while attempting to hide in a tree.
A search of the site yielded six locally fabricated pistols, assorted tools and instruments for weapon production, the sum of ₦40,500, and a mobile phone found in the suspect’s possession.
Preliminary investigations indicate the site supplied firearms to criminal elements within and beyond the area. The suspect is in custody as operations intensify to apprehend his fleeing accomplices.
The Force Commander, Major-General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and vigilance. He urged continued public cooperation, emphasizing that credible intelligence is vital for sustaining security and economic growth.
In a separate development, the Nasarawa State Police Command recently rescued 17 suspected victims of human trafficking. The individuals, aged between 10 and 19, were intercepted in a vehicle in Karu Local Government Area on January 18.
Preliminary investigations suggest they were being transported from Plateau State to Kwara State with promises of farming jobs.
