Idoma Diaspora Group Petitions US President Trump, Seeks Congressional Briefing Over Benue Crisis
The Idoma Association USA (IAUSA) has resolved to submit a formal petition to United States President Donald Trump regarding the escalating security and humanitarian crisis in Benue South. The decision was finalized at the association’s 30th Annual Convention in Virginia Beach, Virginia, held under the theme “Building Unity Through Accountability.” The diaspora group expressed deep concern over persistent violence, loss of life, and mass displacement across Benue South and surrounding areas, warning that the unrest must not be normalized.
Beyond the planned petition seeking humanitarian and diplomatic support, IAUSA announced plans to step up advocacy across international organizations, human rights groups, and global media. The group is actively working to arrange an opportunity for the paramount ruler of Idoma land, His Royal Majesty Och’Idoma V (Agaba’Idu John Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji), to personally present the security and humanitarian plight of the region before members and committees of the United States Congress.
In addition to its diplomatic push, the association outlined practical interventions for the region, including a free medical mission scheduled for December 2026. The outreach will deploy diaspora medical professionals to provide consultations, treatments, and health education to underserved communities throughout Idoma land.
Looking ahead to future elections, IAUSA reaffirmed its commitment to local civic education, urging residents of Benue South to reject ethnic, partisan, and monetary influences in favor of evaluating candidates solely on integrity and track record. The association called for unified, sustained action among traditional authorities, civil society, government bodies, and the global diaspora to address the region’s security and developmental challenges.
