South-West Security: Igboho Still Awaits Federal Approval for Private Security Network

Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has stated that he is still waiting for the Federal Government’s approval to commence operations of his security outfit, the “Iru Ekun Security Network,” aimed at flushing out criminal elements from forests across the South-West region.

In a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, Igboho also expressed his full readiness to comply with a recent executive order signed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, which regulates the activities of private security firms within the state.

The activist disclosed that all necessary documentation and procedural requirements for the approval of the Iru Ekun Security Network had already been submitted to the Federal Government.

Governor Makinde had on May 20, 2026, signed Executive Order 001 of 2026, which regulates associations, groups, and organisations offering security and allied services in Oyo State. The governor explained that the order was necessary to ensure that all groups engaged in vigilante and community-based security activities operate within a clear legal and operational framework that supports peace, order, and the rule of law.

Igboho, in his statement, said, “We have submitted all the required documents for our registered security firm, ‘Iru Ekun Security Network’, and now await the Federal Government’s approval, which will be granted soon.”

He added that his group was absolutely ready to collaborate with the police, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other relevant stakeholders to flush out terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other criminals threatening the safety of rural communities.

The activist commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to revamping the security architecture in the South-West and across Nigeria.

“It is obvious that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is resolutely committed to tackling criminality not only in the South-West but also in other regions plagued by insecurity,” Igboho said.

He further stated that his organisation was ready to comply with Governor Makinde’s executive order, adding that without peace and security, healthy socio-economic development cannot thrive, particularly in rural communities that are critical to agricultural production and national food security.
