Police Launch ‘Command Sweepers Squad’ in Lagos to Curb Rising Insecurity
The Lagos State Police Command has introduced a new tactical security unit, the “Command Sweepers Squad,” to combat growing criminal activity in Ikorodu and its neighbouring communities.
Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai ordered the formation of the squad following mounting public concern over recent security breaches in the Ikorodu axis.
In a statement on Monday, police spokesperson Superintendent Abimbola Adebisi described the unit as a temporary intervention force aimed at restoring public confidence and strengthening safety in the area.
The squad brings together operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, Police Mobile Force, sister security agencies, and the Civilian Joint Task Force.
The unit has been stationed in Ijede to enable quick deployment and effective response across Ikorodu and surrounding locations.
To boost its operations, the command has provided the squad with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
The team is tasked with identifying black spots and criminal hideouts, conducting intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols to flush out criminal elements.
The police command assured residents that all operations would be carried out professionally and within the rule of law, while urging the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
